I'm sure we've all experienced it- a bully at work. Sometimes it's very obvious…someone who yells and calls names when they don't get their way. Other times its more subtle…..a dirty look or being ignored. Either way, it takes just one mean person to drag down the entire workplace. I can admit I have dealt with both and being a sensitive person, I know that it affects me- not just at work- but throughout the day.
Dealing with someone at work who is negative or mean not only affects your job, but it can also affect your health. Working with a toxic person can cause sleep deprivation which in turn can interfere with your ability to cope with stress. A bully can also cause psychological injuries, taking a toll on your mental health.
On a bigger level, one malicious emplyee can wreak havoc on the entire company culture. It may seem like no big deal, but one person can effect turnover rates, job satisfaction and their behavior is contagious! The hardest part is when there is a mean person in the office, they often get their way because others don't want to "deal" with them or are sometimes afraid.
