Virtual Fun for Thanksgiving Weekend

This Thanksgiving weekend is going to be different for most of us. Instead hanging with big crowds to see holiday festivities, we need to be more careful and stay close to home. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a lot of fun!  There are so many ways to entertain yourself and celebrate the season online.
See one of Up North’s most festive downtowns turn on the lights! Harbor Springs Tree Lighting, Nov 28, 6pm on Facebook Live   The downtown Harbor Springs Christmas Tree Lighting will be an online event this year, due to the need to have people avoid crowds in the current Covid-19 environment.
The Virtual Tree Lighting will still be held at its normal time – 6 p.m. on November 28th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but it will be streamed via Facebook Live on the Chamber’s Facebook page. Get take out and gather around the computer to watch the tree come alive.

Take an online cooking class. It’s now possible to learn from great chefs from all over the world. This weekend, they are offering homemade holiday brunches, vegan tacos, Mexican/Italian Fusion and How to Make a Charcuterie Board. All the classes are just $29. Click here to learn more.

If you are into wines, expand your knowledge with an online wine class. The Wine Academy of Napa Valley has so many classes. Get your bottles, your wine partner and enjoy learning more about your favorite varieties.  Click here for more info.

One of the things many people miss right now is traveling. Through Smithsonian Magazine, you can virtually travel to many destinations around the world. See a Witches Forest, historical American homes, a dog sled ride to a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Find destinations that interest you at https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/virtual-travel-180974440/

And if you just want to be a couch potato all weekend, Netflix has so many holiday movies to binge watch. Operation Christmas Drop, Holidate, Klaus and Holiday in the Wild are just a few of their offerings. You’ll also find back to back holiday movies on Lifetime and the Hallmark Channel this weekend too. So make a plate of left overs, find your comfy clothes and enjoy!
