There are so many ways to get out and enjoy the fresh snow this weekend-from a candle-lit hike at Mt McSauba, Dog Sled rides at Shanty Creek, or planning your own snowshoe trek to benefit Camp Daggett! You can also stay in, cuddle up on the couch and enjoy a movie with the State Theater, or, take a historic tour of the Village at Grand Traverse Commons!
 

Mt McSauba Winter Candlelight Hikes

Fridays thru the end of February, 5-8pm

Mt McSauba in Charlevoix has a great way to end the week with a candle light hike or snowshoe on the wooded trails. This is a family friendly free event. The trail is approximately a mile long and will change each week. Learn more on Facebook-click here.

 

Dog Sled Rides at Shanty Creek

Fridays thru March

Second Hand Mushers Rescue will be giving dog sled rides again this 2021 season! Rides will be held at Schuss Mountain at Shanty Creek Resort at the Nordic Center.
Rides are offered every 30 minutes to allow time to meet the dogs, take pictures, and sanitize the sled. Bring your own blankets to cover up with due to COVID. They will also be sanitizing the sled between riders.
Face masks are required. Rides are set up with the Nordic Center at Shanty Creek Resort. To schedule your dog sled ride, please call (866) 695-5010.

 

See a great movie from the State Theater online

The Virtual State has two new movies this weekend…. Harry Chapin: When in Doubt, Do Something and Coup 53. Other titles include

Through the Night, Professor and the Madman, 76 Days, Love Sarah and more. Help the non-profit State Theater and see a great art film at home at thevirtualstate.org

 

 

Camp Dagget/Bearcub Outfitters Virtual Torchlight Snowshoe Outing

January 30th and 31st

 The ever popular event virtual goes virtual this year, as Bearcub Outfitters invites individuals to rent snowshoes for $5.00 at their store at 321 E. Lake Street this Saturday and Sunday. (rental fees go to Camp Daggett) While at the store, participants can purchase tickets for exciting prizes. Participants can then take their own individual hike, and post photos online. Tag @bearcuboutfitters & @campdaggett on Facebook or Instagram to be entered in a drawing for Bearcub Outfitters gift certificates. It’s a great way to support Camp Daggett!

 

 

Guided Historic Tour of the Village at Grand Traverse Commons

Sunday, January 31st, 11am-1pm

This is a 2-hour guided tour of the Village Campus, including a walk through an unrenovated historic building and a trip through an amazing brick steam tunnel built in 1883. Dress for the weather-about half of the tour is outdoors. Tickets are $30 per person. Get more details at thevillagetc.com/tour/
