Is your dog afraid of storms?

It’s that time of year when thunderstorms can happen. And if you have a fearful dog, you know how heartbreaking it can be to watch them suffer.  I am pretty lucky, the dogs I have now do not have storm fear. But I’ve had dogs that are very fearful, and it was so  hard to find ways to comfort them.
I laughed last night when the storm moved through in the middle of the night. My two Frenchie’s were sound asleep and never moved. So I was sure my new little deaf boy would sleep through them too. I had opened my window a little so I could hear the rain and thunder. But as soon as the lightening flashed, he stood up and barked at the flash of light. Most deaf dogs are hyper sensitive to light, so I had to get up, close the window and pull the blinds so we could all get back to sleep.
There are ways to help your dog through a storm. This is one of the best articles I’ve found in laying out storm plans. My childhood dog was petrified of storms and let us know hours before that a storm was heading our way. She panted, paced and found a dark quiet spot in the closet to hide until it was safe to come out.
