Dinner and a Movie, Winter Walks in the Woods, a night of Laughs, and a day of Free Skiing!

Want to get out more in 2024? Here are some great suggestions for the first weekend of the New Year!

Enjoy dinner and a movie at the Helena Township Community Center this Thursday night. The evening begins with a free Italian themed potluck dinner at 6pm, then the movie at 7! Call the library for more details and to sign up for the potluck.

Learn more about the woods in winter! GTCD Forester Ellie Johnson will lead a hike at the Natural Education Reserve to learn about identifying trees and native plants in the winter months. Participants should meet at the Boardman River Nature Center’s Oleson Pavilion this Friday at 10am. Pre-Registration is required-sign up at natureiscalling.org.

You can join a self-guided candle-lit hike at Mt. McSauba, then warm up at the bonfire with some hot cocoa-a romantic winter date night! Hikes happen every Friday from 5-9pm through the end of February. To participate, start at the sledding hill parking lot. Routes may vary from week to week.

Need a good laugh? Join comedienne Katrina Brown at the Traverse City Comedy Club this Friday night. The youngest of seven children, Katrina says things you wish you were bold enough to say. She has no filter when it comes to keeping her material real, relatable & honest. There are 2 shows-at 7:15, and 8:45. Tickets are $25-$30 at mynorthtickets.com.

Looking to try cross-country skiing this winter? Come to Winter Trails Day at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville this Saturday, starting at 1pm. Adults and children will have the chance to try the sport with a free 1-hour clinic that includes a lesson and equipment rental. All you have to do is pre-register at crystalmountain.com.
