weekend-fun-5-summer

From fair food to antique boats, you’ll find a lot to do this weekend. The Les Cheneaux Antique Boat Show is always spectacular and is a reason to take a slow drive across the bridge. Closer to home, check out the car show or a performance by the unbelievable Concert Truck. Summer is marching on, so don’t sit at home!

You’ve watched It on the Olympics and thought…. that looks like fun. And now, you can learn to curl. This weekend (all the way through Aug 24th) take a class and learn to throw the stone. It’s a 2-hour learn-to-curl class for all ages and abilities. You’ll get a crash course on the rules, followed by instructions on form and strategy. As soon as you get the hang of things (usually about 40 minutes), you’ll curl with your friends for the rest of the event! The classes are at the Leelanau Curling Club in Rapid City. It’s $30 a person and you can get more info at leelanaucurlingclub.com.

It’s fair time! Check out the Northwest Michigan Fair in TC though Saturday with rides, fair food and of course, the animals. And the Cheboygan County Fair is thru Sunday with all the rides, corndogs and lemon shake-ups you want. Uncle Kracker is playing the grand stands on Friday night.

The 46th Annual Les Cheneaux Antique Boat Show is Saturday from 9-5 in Hessel at the marina. You can see over 150 antique and classic boats including dinghies, rowboats, canoes, launches, sailboats, utilities, runabouts, large cruisers, racers, classic glass, and classic metal boats. More info at http://www.lchistorical.org/boat-show/

If classic cars are your thing, the Rally By the Bay Car Show and Flea Market is Saturday from 9-3pm in Boyne City’s Veterans Park. All classes of vehicle are welcome – hot rods – rat rods – motorcycles – antiques – fire trucks – hearses. The auto show and flea market are organized by the Boyne City Fire Department and proceeds benefit the Boyne City Firefighters Association.

And if you love music, don’t miss the Concert Truck. The Concert Truck will be performing all around Northern Michigan. Impassioned by their love for music, pianists Nick Luby and Susan Zhang converted a 16-foot box truck into a fully functioning mobile concert hall, complete with lights, sound system, and piano.

Performances include:

Thurs Aug 8 in Charlevoix’s East Park at 6pm
