It’s a summer picnic for the whole family, Friday night at the History Museum in Petoskey. (5-8:30)pm It’s corn roast night! To accompany the delicious, roasted corn from Bill’s Farm Market, there will be brats and hot dogs, tomato salad, coleslaw from Northern Lights Recreation, potato salad from Oleson’s, watermelon, and brownies from J.W. There is a lot of music Friday night to kick off the weekend. Jelly Roll Blues Band always puts on a great show. They’ll be in Harbor Springs at Marina Park starting at 6:30. In Petoskey, enjoy the unique sound of gypsy jazz with Djangophonique. They are playing Pennsylvania Park starting at 7pm. Downtown Gaylord presents Erin Zindle & The Ragbirds. Bring your own chair to Claude Shannon Park at 7pm. And in Mackinaw City, get ready to be a Parrothead at Conkling Heritage Park with The Beachbillies Jimmy Buffett Tribute. That show starts at 8pm.
One of the more unique art fairs is this Saturday in Downtown Traverse City. You’ll find something for you and maybe even an early Christmas gift. Immerse yourself in a day filled with every imaginable artistic expression: bold paintings, eye-catching photography, sculpted ceramics, dazzling jewelry, dreamy fabrics, handcrafted woodwork, luxurious bath & body products, whimsical illustrations, and so much more! The fair is on State Street, 10a-5p on Saturday.
If you’re interested in helping save the Monarch Butterfly population, stop by the Old Emmet Farmers Market on Saturday between 9am and 1pm. You can earn about the importance of milkweed and monarch butterflies. Lauri Juday, a local advocate, will be at her booth raising awareness and providing information on how to create pollinator gardens and raise/release monarchs. Free milkweed seeds will also be available. The Old Emmet Farmers Market is located at the Friendship Center on Anderson Road in Petoskey.
And if you’re a beer lover and would like a road trip, head to Midland for the Great Lakes Beer Festival. It’s your chance to sample the best of Michigan’s craft beer scene, all in one location…in beautiful Dow Diamond in Midland! This festival is made for dedicated beer enthusiasts and casual enjoyers alike! As long as you appreciate a cold pint and the company of some awesome people, this festival is the event for you.
