The crowds are smaller, the weather cooler… but there are still lots of fun things to do as we say goodbye to summer. From unbelievable fireworks to music and a plant sale, you will find something to make you happy!
If you love fireworks, do not miss the International Fireworks Championship Friday and Saturday evening at Turtle Creek Stadium. Firework designers from all over the world will be competing with their best pyrotechnic show. The gates open at 6pm, pre-show entertainment with music and magic… then the first show starts at 8:30pm. There are three different shows plus a finale each night. Learn local history and enjoy a cruise around Little Traverse Bay on Sunday with Harbor Springs Area Historical Society curator Beth Wemigwase aboard the 65′ Harbor Princess. Immerse yourself in captivating stories of the area’s rich history while enjoying the serene beauty of the bay. The ferry leaves the dock at Bayfront Park in Petoskey at 1:30 pm sharp. Refresh your garden for next season with local plants. The Alanson Beautification Center will have their annual plant sale at the Alanson Hillside Garden. Come take a stroll through the garden, grab a hotdog and buy some plants for your yard. See you there! The event is Saturday from 9am until 4pm.
If you’d like to take advantage of a slower weekend and see some great music, there are plenty of opportunities. Jelly Roll Blues Band is play Boyne Valley Vineyards Friday at 6pm. Nick Visconti is live at Gypsy Farms Saturday at 4. Head to the El-Bo Inn in Atlanta for Ty Parkin Saturday at 7. And Drew Hale and Levi Burton are together Saturday night at 7pm at Lake Ann Brewing Company.
And if you’re up for a road trip, Saturday is the U.P. Beer Fest in Marquette. choose from a selection of over 500 crafted beers with 90+ unique styles from 85+ different Michigan breweries. Festival guests can also enjoy an array of tasty food from local restaurants while enjoying a talented line-up of musicians.
