Pet of the Week 2024

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

She’s an active little thing! her name is queenie and she’s a 2 month old puppy that was born in one of our foster homes. she came from a litter of 11 and is one of 5 left !
she is a pit mix and she was in a foster home for 8 weeks with her mom and her 10 siblings. Does well with other dogs and kids. Unsure about cats but she’s a puppy so i think she could be fine!

The LTBHS located on West Conway Road, between Petoskey and Harbor Springs is a no kill shelter that helps find homes for over 500 dogs and cats each year. The LTBHS is completely funded thru donations. All pets adopted from LTBHS are neutered and have received a vet check and shots. Cherryland Humane Society

Hello, I’m Effy! I’m a bundle of joy, always ready to play and explore. I’m also quite the chatterbox, ready to engage in a meowing conversation at any moment. But don’t worry, I’m not all energy and noise. I have a gentle, loving side too. I love nothing more than curling up in a warm lap for a cuddle session. I’m as sweet as can be, and I promise to bring lots of love and laughter into your life. Something you need to know about me is that I am FIV+ which is an immune compromising virus. Regular vet care is essential for me and with proper management FIV+ cats will live long, healthy, happy lives. So why should you adopt me? Well, I believe every home needs a little Effy magic. A playful spirit to brighten up the day, a comforting purr at the end of a long day, and a friendly face to greet you every morning. I promise to be the best companion you could ever wish for.

Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

If you’re looking for just one kitty in your home, who is calm and yet affectionate, this is your gal!

Naomi is one and a half years old —and is looking for a quiet, calm home to help her bloom and gain confidence. Naomi came to TC Paw from an owner who couldn’t care for her any longer.

Though she is, of course, well-cared for by her foster family, she’s still not living her best life. She doesn’t really like other cats. She particularly dislikes kittens. Naomi LOVES people and would draw closer to them, without the other cats around. She loves to be petted and rubbed and to start up her rumbly purr.

She’ll press her head into your hand for ear and chin rubs. She has soft fur and a beautiful face. She’s an enthusiastic eater who loves a squeezy tube treat more than anything else.

Naomi has funny little routines, like standing to look out the window in the morning after breakfast and talking in her sweet, tiny voice to something out there. Her playful side shows with light toys she can skitter across the floor.

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

This big headed fella is Duke! Duke was found wandering as a stray in really rough shape. He was missing most of the fur on his back end and clearly hadn’t been given the love he deserves in quite some time. A good samaritan brought Duke in to us where we were able to work on getting him on medications to help his skin, as well as getting him vaccinated and flea free. He is doing so much better now and his hair is even beginning to grow back in, we couldn’t be more pleased with his improvement.
Duke is a big lover who always wants to be around his people, he is very polite on a leash and could be walked by just about anyone. Despite his appearance upon arrival, we do believe Duke had a home at one point because he seems to know some basic commands and even seems to be housetrained. He also seems to enjoy other dog’s company and would likely do well with cats. Duke is a very gentle boy and would do well in almost any home. He does have a bit of separation anxiety so he would do best in a home where he would not be left for long periods of time. Whether you’re a big dog lover or not, Duke is sure to win your heart as soon as you meet him, please consider adopting or fostering this handsome boy, he sure deserves it!

The Charlevoix Human Society’s mission is to practice and promote the principle that every life is precious. As such, we are committed to the highest principles of humane care and professional treatment of injured, ill, neglected or abused animals. For more information on pets that are available for adoption or to donate, visit the shelter at 614 Beardsley Street in Boyne City or online at www.charlevoixhumane.org

 From AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi, I’m Max! Last I checked, I’m about 1.5 years old, and just under 50lbs. My previous owners did a DNA test on me and found out that I’m made of: Catahoula leopard dog, husky, and several other herding breeds! I was with them for almost a year, so they were able to tell the shelter staff all about me! Here’s what I know. I’m true to my DNA make up, and I have a strong prey drive, I am a very high energy breed. I’ve lived with and done great around kids. I’m not made to live in an apartment or with cats. My ideal home would be a farm where I can run and work (maybe you could train me?), I would do great as a hiking or running buddy. I really enjoy enrichment like snuffle mats, Kong’s, and working for my food. My goal is to please my people, provided they give me all the opportunities to run, and enjoy nature. Are you an active family that is looking for an adventure buddy? Stop by the shelter to see me Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-6pm. If you have questions, you can call my friends at 989-348-8322 or email AVASCares2@gmail.com. Hope to see you soon!

From Cheboygan County Humane Society

Uni (Ooh-Knee) is a roughly 3 year old Female Terrier mix. Uni has lots of energy to play, go on walks, run and enjoy life. We were told Uni loves the water too. Uni can be skiddish of people and larger dogs. She doesn’t seem to mind much with cats or children though. Uni had a rough start when she arrived at the shelter but she has completely turned around and is thriving. Uni requires a meet and greet with anyone in the home as well as any other animals in the home due to her nervousness. Uni is spayed, chipped and up to date on vaccines.

Please visit their website at cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
