Pet of the Week 2024

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Our longest shelter resident Madigan is our #PetOfTheWeek on @litebreakfastshow ✨
Madigan is a sweet, smart, energetic and kind playful dog who will make a great companion for one lucky family! She knows some basic commands and is polite on the leash. Madigan has been with LTBHS since last year, and we are hoping you can share her post to find her new family!
BONUS: her adoption fee is WAIVED through October thanks to our friends at @subarubythebay, and she’ll go home with an adoption starter kit!

Cherryland Humane Society

Hello, I’m Lexi. I might be a little shy at first, but give me some time and you’ll see how sweet and friendly I can be. I’m quite independent, yet I’m always curious about what you’re doing. I have a gentle and mellow nature, but don’t be fooled, I’m quite smart too. I enjoy a good cuddle, and I’m very loyal once I get to know you. I even like to chat sometimes, in my own feline way, of course. I’m looking for a forever home where I can be loved and cherished. If you’re looking for a companion who is as loyal and loving as I am, then I’m the perfect cat for you.
Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

One stormy night, Opal was rescued from a shed, a scared but sweet cat. She was already spayed and so friendly that we feel she must have been someone’s pet, but we know no more about her.

Opal runs to her TC Paw foster mom to ask to be petted and will paw at her for more attention. She loves to be close so much that her foster mom says it’s difficult to get a good picture.

She’d be happy as the only pet, but with careful introduction, could be okay with other pets. Opal has never met a stranger. She likes everyone and will be an affectionate, attentive companion.

She loves to be brushed, will lay next to you and will even follow you around the house. She is a gem of cat looking for her perfect match.

Opal does take a daily thyroid medication that is mixed in with her food. The medication is inexpensive and Opal does not mind it at all.

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

Meet Miss Flower! This absolute sweetheart of a cat ended up at the shelter as an owner surrender. Flower happily will ask for attention from the staff members, and she is quite the talker. She is not quite sure of her friends in the cat room yet, but the staff believes that with time she can become more comfortable with them. Flower would do well in most homes, she is very affectionate and very sweet. If Flower sounds like the perfect cat for you, fill out an application in person at the shelter or online (charlevoixhumane.org) today!

 From AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Charity is roughly 4-6 months old, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations! Life hasn’t been kind to her until recently. She says, “I was found abandoned, and a wonderful group of people made sure I got the help I needed. Then they asked our new friends at AVAS to help me find a family of my own. No one got to meet my mom and dad, so my breed is a complete mystery. What’s not a mystery is my sweet and loving personality. I’m working on potty training, but it’s harder to accomplish that in a shelter, so I’ll likely learn quicker in my new home. I will need help learning all the good things at a young age, like manners, socialization, potty training, and leash walking. I hope you can come visit me soon! I’m available for meet-and-greets at the shelter Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM.” We ask that you bring any potential doggy siblings with you to ensure a good fit. For more information, please call the shelter at 989-348-4117 or email AVASCares2@gmail.com. Come meet Charity and see if she’s the perfect addition to your family!

From Cheboygan County Humane Society

Frollo is an approximately 2 year old Medium mix breed dog. Frollo is likely younger but he was brought in as a stray whose family decided to never claim him. Frollo has plenty of energy for all types of play but he does enjoy time laying and chilling in his bed too. Frollo came in with another dog so he has been around other dogs but will require a meet and greet with any dogs in the home. Frollo has also been around children and seems to love them. Frollo does need some work on leash manners but he is an eager boy who we’re sure will learn quick. Frollo seems to have had some work on house-training but with any other dog will need time to adjust and learn, including some house-training reminders. Frollo is neutered, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines.

Frollo’s adoption fee is $150.

Please visit their website at cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
