Pet of the Week 2024

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Hi there friends! My name is Oskar and I am a super sweet cat. I get along with other cats and dogs. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application and come on in to spend some time with me. I hope to meet you soon!

Hi there, I’m Stewart. I’m a bit of a shy guy when we first meet, but give me a moment and you’ll see my sweet, cuddly side. I’m pretty smart too, I’ve figured out all the best nap spots around here. My playful and goofy nature is sure to make you laugh, especially when I’m chasing after a toy mouse. My curiosity is always getting the better of me, I just can’t resist exploring new places or objects. I’ve got energy to spare, but I’m also perfectly content to curl up in your lap. I’m a loyal friend, always ready to lend a comforting purr. If you’re looking for a cat who is not only friendly and funny, but also incredibly loving and devoted, then I’m your guy. I promise to bring joy, laughter, and lots of cuddles into your life. I would prefer a quieter home with no children.
Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Tabby and siblings were two weeks old when they were found in a neighbor’s garden, placed in a TC Paw foster home, and bottle fed for four weeks. He eats on his own now, and he LOVES food. Tabby’s foster family says he is Mr. Personality, loving to all people and animals. He’s adventurous and enjoys exploring the house with his people. When it’s time for bed, he likes to snuggle with you, but he doesn’t mind sleeping in his kennel. Tabby likes everything but the vacuum. He lives in a foster home with kids, dogs, and an old cat. He’ll fit happily into a family with kids old enough to understand boundaries or a family without kids.

Tabby’s brother is Tom. Check out his page too.  Click here for Tom’s page:

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

This little guy is Cedar. He is a playful and energetic little guy, and he loves everyone. He can be timid at times but also has a calm demeanor. Cedar came to us in a group of 5 surrendered puppies. We are unsure how he is with cats and children, and he’s not very fond of the big dogs here. However, he’s very young so he’d be fairly easy to train.

Meet Waldo! This little 2-month-old mix is a bundle of joy and curiosity, soaking up all his puppy lessons like a champ. Waldo is very smart and is already picking up on commands like “sit” and “paw.” He’s also on his way to mastering potty training!

Waldo’s friendly nature means he gets along wonderfully with other dogs, kids, and even cats. When he’s not playing, he’s the best cuddler around and loves to shower his people with sweet puppy kisses (and a few nibble kisses, too!). Ready to bring home a loyal friend who’s equal parts playful and affectionate? Waldo is waiting to meet you!

Waldo is available for a foster-to-adopt home. More information about Waldo, please call the shelter at 989-348-4117 or email at AVASCares2@gmail.com

From Cheboygan County Humane Society

Reign is approximately 3 years old. Reign is not a big girl, at 55 pounds but she is a loving little girl looking for a family to appreciate her as much as she would them. Reign came to the shelter as a stray whose family never came for her. Reign is an active girl, looking for a family willing to teach her more leash manners and enjoy taking her on walks and adventures. Reign loves kids of all sizes and sometimes prefers their company to the adults. Reign hates to see you leave and loves the moment you step through a door, she is truly a people kind of dog. Reign loves to be in the yard, running and playing and doesn’t seem to mind the other dogs here at the shelter either. She will require a meet and greet however with any people or dogs in the home. Due to the nature of Reigns arrival here at the shelter, we are not sure how Reign would do with cats. Reign is working on leash manners daily with our dog walkers and gets better and better every time she goes outside. Reign is spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on vaccines.

Reign’s adoption fee is $150.

Please visit their website at cheboyganhumanesociety.org. Or stop by the shelter at 1535 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan. Call 231-238-8221 for more information. Shelter hours are Mon-Fri 9-4pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
