This is a weekend full of things to do… that are pretty unique. From competing to be the best banana bread to watch snowmobiles go way too fast, hiking though the woods to see a snowy owl to checking out Hollywood from a time gone by, you can find something new to do this weekend. There’s no football, so get off the couch and try something for the first time.

Do you have a secret banana bread recipe? Then this is your weekend because it’s the Banana Bread Festival in downtown Petoskey on Saturday. Bring your Banana Bread to Grandpa Shorter’s on Saturday between 9 and 11, judging is at 1pm. The winners from each category will be announced at Grandpa Shorter’s Gifts and broadcasted live on Facebook Live at 3 PM. Winners from each category will receive $250 in gift certificates from local businesses. Categories include: Amateur Baker, Professional Baker, Child Baker and Gluten-Free. So get your bananas mashed and start baking!

If you love musicals, there’s a show at the City Opera House  you might love…Hollywood Revisited. Experience what it’s like to watch the stars walk the red carpet as your favorite Tinseltown classics come to life in Hollywood Revisited. This stunning musical revue showcases a truly dazzling lineup of costumes actually worn by the stars in the original Hollywood films. Set to the music that defined the times, this show will leave you in awe as you learn about and come close enough to touch these historic original masterpieces of old-time Hollywood. Need a unique Valentine’s gift? Then check out the Craft and Vendor Show in Gaylord. Crafts, tasty treats and jewelry are just some of the finds you can pick up. The Beat the Winter Blues Craft/Vendor Show on Saturday, February 1, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Gaylord E-Free Church. 1649 E. M-32, Gaylord.

If you love birds, then don’t miss the Snowy Owl Festival this weekend in Hessel. The Snowy Owl Festival is an annual celebration dedicated to the snowy owl and its winter migration to the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Friday night includes a presentation about the owls, Saturday and Sunday have birdwatching tours and on Saturday afternoon, there is a live owl presentation. Speed, ice and lots of roaring engines…. it’s the  International Soo 500 Snowmobile Race at the Owosso Speedway in the Soo.  All week long there are activities including other races, the night before the race ball at the Kewadin Casino, the crowing of the I-500 Queen and then Saturday’s big race with starts at noon.
