Ice Fest to some self reflective theater… there is something for everyone this weekend.

weekend-fun-five-new

There is a lot going on this weekend as we head into the February winter events. From snowshoeing and skiing, ice sculptures to theater, you can find so many ways to get out and enjoy the weekend. And you can be home in time to watch Sunday’s Big Game!

If you’re looking for some fun that everyone in the family can enjoy, check out the Harbor Springs Icefest, Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 in downtown Harbor Springs. This classic NoMi ice festival features dueling chainsaws, over 50 ice sculptures, and plenty of activities for the family. An interactive ice park is open for photo ops and playing o, and ice games will be held downtown, as well as a scavenger hunt. Attendees can also watch ice carving demonstrations! More information is available here.

If you’d like some theater this weekend, Old Town Playhouse is presenting a play that might really make you think. No Exit is being performed Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30. Jean-Paul Sartre’s famous existentialist play follows three people to a room in hell, where their torture is revealed to be each other’s company. An exploration of human nature and relationships, this play brims with sardonic wit. You’ll laugh. You’ll be horrified. You’ll ponder life’s meaning. Includes adult themes intended for adult audiences. Tickets at OldTownPlayhouse.com

Governor Whitmer has written a new version of her story and will be in Traverse City on Friday evening at the City Opera House. She’ll be joined by Chasten Buttigieg to celebrate the release of the Young Adult version of the Governor’s memoir True Gretch.  Presented by and benefiting The Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center. Tickets are available at CityOperaHouse.org

If you’d like to take a scenic and interesting snowshoe, check out this Saturday’s event at Historic Mill Creek in Mackinaw City. Starting at 2pm, you’ll explore the wonders of the woods in the winter. Meet naturalist Kyle Bagnall in the parking lot where you’ll begin a leisurely walk of about 1.5 miles. Along the way, search for signs of wildlife and other wonders of the natural world. After your hike, enjoy treats near a campfire at the Forest Clearing.  (Participants must provide their own snowshoes) Learn more here.

And on Sunday, you can ski for a good cause! Ski Today for a Better Tomorrow Is at The Highlands on Sunday, February 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Join in for  a day that is all about giving back to the community that you love.  Ski Today for a Better Tomorrow is your chance to make every turn on the slopes count—because ALL proceeds from lift tickets will support two incredible local organizations: Little Traverse Conservancy and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council. Lift tickets for this day are only $15, and equipment rentals are only $25. Invite your family and friends, and help two amazing organizations.
