Snowshoes to folk music, enjoy another Up North Weekend!

weekend-fun-5-new

It looks like winter, but the calendar says February is slipping by quickly!  So if you want to enjoy winter festivals, make sure you get out and about this weekend. From food to a polar plunge, snowshoeing by torchlight to a folk festival…. you’ll find something to make your weekend bliss.

Friday night kicks off Harbor Springs Restaurant Week, your chance to dine at some of the area’s best restaurants, all featuring special menus and deals. 18 different choices of restaurants means you can enjoy lunch and dinner out almost every day. The event  covers two weekends (February 21 through March 2 and one full week in between) with restaurants in Harbor Springs and Petoskey participating. From a complete dinner with optional beverage pairing at Nomad to wings, sliders and brews at Bar Harbor, you’ll find just what you’re looking for. See the menus and participants at HarborSpringsChamber.com.

We’ve had near record snowfall, making the snowshoeing trails almost perfect!  And Saturday night is your chance to hit the woods along the torchlite trails at Camp Daggett. Camp Daggett Torch Light Snowshoe is Saturday evening, 5-8pm. Enjoy an enchanting evening of winter with snow-covered trails, illuminated by torchlight as you snowshoe through campus. After your adventure, warm up in the lodge with hot cocoa and cookies. Bearcub Outfitters will also be on hand to provide snowshoes for anyone who needs them. Be sure to enter the Bearcub Outfitters raffle for a chance to win some exciting prizes! This event is free, and no RSVP is needed, but donations to Camp Daggett are always appreciated.

Saturday is the Boyne City Winter Festival with lots to do for the family at Veteran’s Park. The day starts off with a 8am pancake breakfast, followed by the farmers market, polar plunge at noon and a chili cook off to help you warm up. See the schedule at waterfrontfieldofdreams.com

Another family friendly event on Saturday is Winterlochen at the Interlochen campus. The event starts at 11am and ends with a 2pm performance of student art and music. Bundle up for outdoor fun such as sledding and s’mores, then head inside for a variety of family-friendly arts exploration activities. Try out some real instruments, learn the basics of acting, dance to live jazz, paint and craft away, conduct the Arts Academy Orchestra, and so much more! Interlochen.org for more details.

If you’re looking for a laid back day full of great music, check out the Folk Festival in Traverse City. Great Indoor Folk Festival is Sun February 23 from noon-5:30 at the Village of GT Commons. Enjoy live folk & acoustic music with more than 75 musicians performing on four different stages. Musicians include The Jim Crockett and Co., Song of the Lakes, New 3rd Coast, Riggs and Jeels, Runaway Mule, and STRUM. Event is free. Food and beverages available.
