Music, brews and food make this a cozy weekend.

weekend-fun-five-new

Winter events are starting to wind down, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some fun left in this snow season. Music, food and brews await… just pick your event and enjoy the weekend. And remember, make it count since it’s an hour shorter this weekend. (Set your clocks ahead before you go to bed.)

It is so exciting to see people with a passion make it come to life. And that is what local musicians Michelle Chenard and Pete Kehoe have done with their organization Big Water Creative. And Friday night, they are having a fundraising event to help keep music in schools. The fun is at Ron’s Bar and Backyard starting at 6pm. Michelle and Pete will be your bartenders and will do a live set later in the evening. They’ll be serving hotdogs and cold beer and would love your tips to help make sure local students have the opportunity to learn and enjoy music.

There are two tribute shows this weekend you might enjoy. The first one is Marrakesh Express: A Crosby Stills Nash and Young Tribute, Friday evening March 7, 7pm at the Cheboygan Opera House. Head back to the late 1960s to experience a reproduction of CSNY’s songs. Marrakesh Express brings a real hippie vibe & visual to the stage. Enjoy folk rock with hits like “Teach Your Children” & “Our House.” Tickets at TheOperaHouse.org  And if you’re a James Taylor fan, don’t miss Steamroller: The Music of James Taylor, also Friday night March 7, 7:30pm at the City Opera House in Traverse City. Featuring performances of James Taylor’s favorite sing-a-longs including “Fire & Rain,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” & “Sweet Baby James.” Tickets at CityOperaHouse.org

You can kick off your weekend with friends by checking out First Friday in downtown Charlevoix. From 4 until 8, enjoy shopping, dining and check out the cocktail trail. It’s the perfect way to support local business and reconnect with friends.

If you’d like to learn the art of making pasta and sauces, there is a cooking class at Chateau Chantal on Saturday at 12:30 that looks super fun. You’ll learn the classic art of rolling fresh pasta, while pairing homemade sauces with various Chateau Chantal wines! Their chef-educator will create a wonderfully entertaining and educational afternoon of food and fun. All cooking classes are approximately four hours concluding with a sit-down meal where guests enjoy their delicious creations. Class begins at 12:30pm, and they ask you to please arrive 10 minutes before the class so they may check everyone in and get started on time. Consider bringing an apron and your favorite knife (we will have extras if needed). Class, Wine, Dinner, Tax & Tip all Included for $150. Reservations here.
