Pet of the Week 2025

If you are looking for a new furry family member for your home, please consider adopting from one of our area shelters. There are thousands of pets each year in Northern Michigan who lose their family for one reason or another. Rescue is love!

Little Traverse Bay Humane Society

Hi, I’m Miracle! I’m almost 9 years old, a black and white pitbull mix, and I’m looking for my forever family. I might be a bit older, but don’t let that fool you-I’ve still got plenty of love and energy to share!

I’m a sweet, gentle soul who loves nothing more than being around people. I’m the perfect mix of playful and chill. A walk in the park? I’m there! Snuggling up on the couch? I’m a pro at that too. I’m a people pup through and through, and I’ll always be by your side, ready to give you all the love you could ever need.

I may be a little older, but I promise you, I’m still young at heart! I’m looking for a home that’s calm and patient, where I can relax, feel safe, and continue to be the loyal companion I’ve always wanted to be.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loving girl who just wants to be part of your family, I could be the one for you. Let’s meet-I can’t wait to show you how much love I have to give!

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is at 1300 West Conway Road or online at LTBHS.com. They are a private, no kill shelter serving Emmet County.

Cherryland Humane Society

Hello there, I’m Mr.G! My tale is like a superhero comic, full of twists and turns. Once upon a time, I was living a quiet life, when suddenly, a mysterious force whisked me away to a strange new world – the shelter. I quickly became the shelter’s secret superhero, using my smarts to solve problems and my goofiness to bring laughter because as you can see I have the cutest snaggletooth. I’m a loyal sidekick, always ready for a cuddle or play session. I may be shy at first, but once I warm up, my sweet, gentle nature shines through. I’m friendly and curious, always eager to explore and learn. If you’re looking for a mellow companion with a knack for making you smile, I’m your guy. Adopt me and let’s write our own superhero story together!
Cherryland Humane Society is a private, no kill animal shelter servicing Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. We are an independent, 501-C, non profit organization. CHS is dependent on donations, fundraising activities, estates, planned giving, memorials and occasional grants for operation. Visit our available pets online at cherrylandhumane.org

TC PAWS

Henry is one of the Kalkaska 38, a huge hoarding rescue TC Paw did over Labor Day weekend.

He is a big, gentle guy who loves to be petted and have his back end rubbed. His foster family says Henry may be frightened at first and want to hide, but he will come out of hiding, and then you’ll have a great pet, though he still likes to have a hidey spot he can go to occasionally.

He gets along with other cats. He hasn’t been around kids and dogs, but Henry has such a gentle disposition that we think he’d be okay after a careful introduction.

TC Paw Cat Rescue was formed in the Spring of 2023 after the well-known northern Michigan rescue group AC PAW retired their rescue program for cats and dogs. Their mission is helping cats and kittens in the greater Traverse City region through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, adoption, education and community collaboration.

From the Charlevoix Humane Society

Hi guys!! I’m Anna May and I’m SO excited to meet you! I just love people! I am still learning manners and how to control my excitement so you may see me quite literally jump for joy at times, I promise it’s something I’m working on though. I just need a nice human to come along and teach me some basic etiquette. I’m still young and very eager to learn! You may wonder why I’m a year old and don’t have much training, well, I have spent almost my whole life in shelters. I was brought to a shelter out of town at about 4 months old and that’s all I’ve ever known or been exposed to. I’m learning to go on walks now and how to walk nicely and the people here say I’m a quick learner! I am very curious of the other dogs and have even gotten to make a couple friends! I can be a little hesitant with female dogs and would probably do best with male dogs. I’m sure with the right human and some patience we could work through this. I haven’t experienced those little fuzzy things called cats so I’m not sure I’d want to coexist with any, but again, maybe it’s something I could learn to live with. Give me a chance and I promise to be the best girl I can be!

From AuSable Valley Animal Shelter

Hi! Hi! Hi! My name is Taz!

I’m about 3.5 years old, weigh around 40 lbs, and come fully prepared for my new home—I’m neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped! I’d say I’m a medium-energy dog. I love going for walks, but I’m just as happy chilling out. As for my breed? Well, that’s anyone’s guess since no one got to meet my mom and dad.

I love everyone I meet—people and dogs alike. I’m not a fan of cats; they’re just too sneaky! I get nervous, and sometimes my prey drive gets the best of me, so I chase them. I think it’d be best if I didn’t live with cats because I wouldn’t want to stress them out.

If you’d love to meet me, please come by Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. If you have any questions, give the shelter a jingle at 989-348-4117 or email them at AVAScares2@gmail.com.
